Status

As of 2024, TennisCambridge has taken important baby steps in establishing a relationship with the City of Cambridge. We were founded in 2022, and in 2023 attended numerous city public meetings, including the parks masterplan series.

In late 2023, the city of Cambridge announced the decommissioning of 3 hockey arenas following these events:

  • Refurbishment of two municipal arenas to national hockey league size.
  • Construction of the Cambridge Multiplex
  • Creation of a new soccer complex on Fountain Street to replace the Riverside Park soccer compex.

Our plan is to apply for and  leverage a TennisCanada/Rogers grant of $200,000 to municipalities who create indoor tennis facilities. Alison Anderson, our group member from TennisCanada has ratified the application process.

The three arenas include:

  1. Dickson Arena
  2. Duncan McIntosh (Churchill Park)
  3. Karl Hommuth

We contacted the city of Cambridge and have received confirmation that we, as a tennis organization, will be notified when the process is to begin.
